Sage & Soul

We removed the dividing wall between the kitchen and dining room and widened the existing arched opening into the living room, creating one open-concept space across the main level. A new peninsula, with the cooktop facing the dining room, keeps whoever’s cooking part of the conversation, and the original kitchen windows, small and light-limiting, were enlarged to extend sightlines into the dining room and open up the layout further. Kitchen cabinetry uses three profiles: a light sage, a dark, moody eucalyptus, and a warm wood grain accent, paired with light HanStone Aurelia quartz countertops finished with a negative reveal and rounded edge.

In the entryway, a former closet at the base of the stairs was opened into the space, with Blue Garden encaustic-style tile from Euro Tile and Stone underfoot beneath a bold insect-print wallpaper, and a cedar slatted partition fitted into the original closet’s doorway separates the entry nook from the living area without closing it off. In the bathroom, an outdated alcove tub and shower combo made way for a walk-in shower wrapped in emerald glossy porcelain tile, set against matte white hexagon floor tile, matte black fixtures, and a wall-mounted sink with an integrated towel rack and recessed medicine cabinet. New kitchen hardwood was matched to the home’s existing floors and refinished with a clear satin finish, and original crown moulding in the living room was preserved through demolition.
