On CTV News at Noon: Organizing your entryway
September 12, 2017
School’s back in, fall routines are gearing up and that shift in seasons makes this a perfect time to think about organizing your entryway. In President Steve Barkhouse’s latest appearance on CTV News at Noon with Leanne Cusack, he shares several mudroom projects to provide inspiration for your own entryway updates.
Busy families need a drop zone coming in and going out of the house. If your space is tiny, awkward or inefficient, it can lead to frustration. Sometimes all a space needs is a fresh approach to give it a new – and useful – life.
Watch the video here and check out the examples below:
- Home #1, before: A small foyer leading to a narrow hall and choppy spaces leads to clutter and no clear place to put anything.
- Home #1, after: Opening up the space breathes life into it, while a full-length mirror at the end of the hall adds visual depth plus a handy spot for one last check before heading out the door.
- Home #2, before: A rear addition had been used as a family room, but an awkward sliding door placement impeded functionality.
- Home #2, after: Reconsidering the space meant a proper entry area could be comfortably fit in while leaving plenty of room for family-room relaxing.
- Home #3, before: The back door was being used as an entrance, but it wasn’t very functional and opened right into the kitchen.
- Home #3, after: Creating a dedicated entryway with appropriate storage adds to the visual appeal and usefulness of the space.
- Home #4, before: There isn’t much elbow room in this foyer, where a narrow half wall and closet opposite the door are intended to create division.
- Home #4, after: Organization, style and function are added, along with lots of natural light, by rethinking the space.
