Behind the scenes at Amsted: Meet the team

November 12, 2018

We work with an awesome group of professionals and we want to show them off, which is why we’re starting this series: We’d like you to meet the team behind the Amsted name. They’re a fun, dedicated bunch and a huge part of the reason clients continue to give us great reviews and referrals.

So, in no particular order, we’ll gradually introduce you to our staff, sharing a bit about who they are, what they love and some of their favourite projects. Here are the first three.

Chuck M.
Director of Design

What do you do?
I build, manage and mentor a talented design team to work collaboratively with our excellent construction team and trade partners.

Fave project?
There have been many from before I joined the company, when Amsted and I collaborated on projects, but since coming to Amsted, two of my favourite projects were designing an Arts & Crafts-inspired custom home in Westboro and an extensive whole house renovation in Kanata.

Away from work I…
Am learning to play guitar. I love spending time: with my kids & grandkids; at the cottage; travelling; and enjoying a fine glass of wine… or two!

Fave project in your own home?
Our kitchen. After 10 years of talking about it, we finally re-did it and I’m proud to say it was a finalist in this year’s Greater Ottawa Home Builders’ Association Housing Design Awards!

Chuck’s kitchen.

Best part about working at Amsted?
That’s easy… working as part of the amazing team of skilled individuals!

Zak P.
Lead Carpenter

What do you do?
I’m a lead carpenter. My role is a supportive one, where I work closely with the tradesmen and women to execute the design team’s vision according to the project manager’s schedule and budget.

Fave project?
My most memorable project so far was a deck for Chuck. I’ve been a big fan of his work for many years. So it was a pleasure to work with and for him on his own residence and get to know him a little better.

Away from work I…
Enjoy spending time with my children and their athletic pursuits, like skating and skiing.

Fave project in your own home?

My kitchen. I blew out the wall between the kitchen and living room to open the space and reoriented the stove and exhaust fan to the centre island. The room is now filled with light and my family enjoys much more time in there than before.

Best part about working at Amsted?
The team. It’s full of skilled and dedicated professionals who bring out the best in one another and share high standards every day.

Andrea F.
Office Administrator

What do you do?
I am the new office administrator. I support the team from our main office by assisting with everything from answering the phones to overseeing corporate contracts.

Fave project?
As I’m still fairly new, I haven’t had any major projects to tackle. But I’d have to say that my favourite part of the learning process so far has been spending the day with Chuck and learning more about the design team and their processes here at Amsted.

Away from work I…
Get outdoors! Skiing, rock climbing and trail running to name a few of my favourite hobbies.

Fave project in your own home?
It’s not yet complete, but I’d have to say the gear room. We’re creating a space to store all of our outdoor gear and put some of our favourite items (like my free-style skis) on display.

Best part about working at Amsted?
Hands down, it’s the awesome team that we have here. They are dedicated to working together to achieve the common goal of changing the lives of our clients — and of course, having fun while doing it!
