Amsted TV Episode 12: The preconstruction meeting, or precon

June 11, 2018

The first meeting after signing your construction contract is known as the preconstruction meeting, or precon. In the latest of our video series, Amsted President Steve Barkhouse explains the value of this important step in the renovation process.

Precon is when we formally move from the design phase of the project to the construction phase. It’s also when the Project Manager will take over the reins from the Project Co-ordinator.

At this meeting, both the Project Manager and the Project Co-ordinator will sit down with the homeowners and review the details of the project, the important issues for the homeowners, and the schedule and budget to make sure everyone is on the same page.

This important step gives peace of mind to the homeowners that nothing has fallen through the cracks.

Our detailed list of information that is reviewed has been developed over the years by our clients, who told us what they wanted to know before the work begins. It includes a review of:

  • All contact information
  • Work hours
  • Site cleanliness
  • Information exchange methods
  • Work schedule
  • Security
  • Storage, and more

Starting any renovation project can be a stressful time for homeowners. The precon meeting addresses any and all concerns so that when construction begins everyone knows what to expect.

The precon meeting is also the first of the weekly meetings throughout the project where schedule, design decisions and progress are discussed.

We know that communication is critical to the success of your renovation project, and the precon meeting is a big first step toward promoting great communication.

With the precon meeting complete, construction is underway!
