Amsted 2021 GOHBA Award Winners

Renovator of the Year

Special Achievement Award

We’re proud to have been named Ottawa Renovator of the Year (for the 9th time), making Amsted the current local and provincial Renovator of the Year! Special thanks to the clients who chose us for their projects this year.

Crichton: Let the Sunshine In/Light and Airy
Renovation Under $100,000
Custom Kitchen 175 sq. ft. or of less – Traditional

We’re proud that this project won two GOHBA Awards. The homeowners, an elderly couple, wanted a more open kitchen/dining/entryway with better flow and storage. Transforming this space involved reorienting the kitchen to increase flow and functionality. We added a peninsula to create an L-shaped kitchen that feels more spacious. We also added cabinets in the dining room and drawers in the kitchen for easy access storage. Other updates include elegant grey cabinets, pot lights, modern fixtures and a marble backsplash to draw the eye.

Carling: Connecting In and Out

Basement Renovation

For this project, the homeowners wanted to convert their under-utilized walkout basement to an entertainment space with stunning views and unrestricted exterior access. We reconfigured the original, undefined space into a media room, guest bedroom, home gym, kitchen, mudroom and sauna. Now the owners who are big movie lovers can watch their favourite films in the spacious media room. If they’re in the mood to relax, they can wind down (and warm up) in the infrared sauna, which is conveniently located beside the new mudroom.

Phylis: A Kitchen for Two Chefs

Custom Kitchen 176–250 sq. ft. – Traditional

Making one kitchen work for two chefs is a classic design challenge. The homeowners wanted to transform their kitchen into a brighter, more functional space. We improved the sense of flow by changing the kitchen’s orientation, adding a window, and removing upper cabinets to allow in more natural light. The kitchen is now brighter and more integrated with the rest of the home. The island has a second sink to create two prep areas. There is now plenty of space for two or more cooks to get creative in the kitchen.

Castle Hill: Simply Refined

Custom Kitchen 251 sq. ft. or more – Traditional, $75,001 and over
John Laurysen Memorial Trophy

For this project, our clients needed an accessible, multigenerational custom home to accommodate their physically challenged father and son while maintaining privacy for each family member. The new barrier-free, five bedroom, four and a half bathroom custom home has many unique accessibility and design elements. A private supportive care wing provides the father with a stylish, barrier-free space that is connected to the main home. The home also features a two-sided elevator for easy access to all three floors. Other accessibility features include roll under vanities and roll-in showers, an exterior wheelchair ramp, and a ceiling-mounted lift track in the son’s bedroom.

Amsted 2021 GOHBA Award Finalists

Castle Hill: Stylish Multigenerational Living/Beauty Created Barrier-Free

Alternative Enclosed Space
Custom Urban Home 3,001 sq. ft. or more – Traditional

This beautiful, multigenerational home proves that barrier-free accessibility can be achieved without sacrificing style. We’re delighted that this project was a winner in two GOHBA Awards categories, as well as a finalist in two categories.

Fairmont: Reconfigured Living

Renovation $350,000–$500,000

For this renovation, we designed a hybrid open-concept floor plan to modernize the space while respecting the home’s vintage character. One of the most impressive features is a “tree house” master bedroom addition.

Falk: Classic Midcentury Modern

Custom Kitchen 251 sq. ft. or more – Traditional, $75,001 and over

This renovation involved transforming the kitchen into an entertainer’s dream space that can accommodate over twenty guests. It features a gorgeous island, plenty of counter space and ample natural light.

Muskoka: Living It Up

A Collaboration with StyleHaus Interiors
Renovation $550,001 and over

For this project, the original compartmentalized home was transformed into a more functional and open-concept space.
