Have some design fun with your powder rooms

October 2, 2017

Powder rooms make a great canvas for having some fun. They’re small, contained spaces where adding extra oomph doesn’t seem like too much of a commitment and they offer a bit of an unexpected pop for your guests. That was the case with this powder room renovation, one of our finalists in this month’s Housing Design Awards.

But this powder room also needed to do double duty as the laundry room. How to turn that utility need into a design element? Simple: Add a sliding barn door to hide the stacked washer and dryer when they’re not in use. This solution efficiently elevates the space to a room with some wow, while still allowing its dual purpose to function well.

To top it off, the dropped ceiling that was required to vent the dryer has become a feature over the vanity, which manages to be large enough for the ladies of the house to get ready in the morning.

The owners figured it would take a miracle to move their basement laundry up into this powder room. Miracle delivered!
